Coma coasted home in comfort in the final of the 10 stages to finish eighth and seal the overall win after traveling from Sobral to Fortaleza. He won three stages and apart from the final day was always among the top three in the daily reckoning. Brazilian Felipe Zanol came second and Poland’s KTM rider Kuba Przygonski was overall third.

“The rally was quite long,” Coma said. “Now is the time to enjoy the victory. Sertões has very particular characteristics not found anywhere else in the world. The first stages were very difficult for me because I use a slightly larger bike for the demands of this type of rally.” Coma said it was a shame that his close rival Ze Helio (5-times winner of Sertões Rally) had problems that took him out of contention for the final title when he failed to finish Stage Three after he hit a rock and punctured an oil intercooler. “I had to ride very concentrated, not making mistakes and always with the goal of finishing the special among the top three. It was particularly important for me to win here because it is the title that was missing from my collection,” the spanish rider concluded. Coma competed on the KTM 690 EXC, the farewell rally for him on this bike.

Third placed Polish rider Kuba Przygonski also rode the KTM 690 who said that he was happy with his results after what was a very hard race.

“I didn’t expect to win here but its always nice to be world champion as soon as possible,” Tony said. “I didn’t take any risks and I was also a bit lucky that Desalle stopped, but that is racing. for sure I am happy with the new bike. I never had to stop for any technical problem and that is really important if you want to be constant. I love this bike and the whole team, they have helped me a lot!”

Tony has enjoyed a remarkable season on the new bike. He rode it to victory in its first ever appearance in the pre-season race at Star Mantova Italy and has continued to be in the forefront of the competition throughout the season. The bike that was developed in close cooperation with 10-times world champion and Red Bull KTM’s team boss stefan Everts has proved itself to be a light and very agile rival to the more powerful MX1 450 machines.

Cairoli has so far won seven GPs and 13 of 26 individual motos in the 2010 season. He has only been off the podium on one occasion (at the GP of Germany when he finished in fourth place)

But securing the title two GPs before the end of the season was not a foregone conclusion on race day in Brazil. Mid race in the second moto when Cairoli was busy hunting down rival clement Desalle, he crashed and found himself back at fourth place. He then hit the gas and proceded to systematically register fastest times on the bumpy Brazilian track and to pick off the riders in front, including teammate Max Nagl. He had Desalle in his sights and everything pointed to a cliff hanger finish in the last lap when the Belgian’s bike stopped and he was out of the race. Tony charged through the chequered flag and was not completely aware that the title was his until he was mobbed by madly celebrating members of the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing Team.

Sunday was a hard day at the office for Cairoli, who did not get away well at the start of the first moto and found himself stranded back at 14th place. He then put in a heroic ride to fight his was back into contention – which he did in his usual great style. As the race came down to the wire, it was clear that he would not catch fellow Italian David Philippaerts but Cairoli had his eyes on Desalle in second place and just managed to slip past him in the final run to the flag.

In another good day on the track for the Orange team, Max Nagl joined Tony on the podium in third place in the GP and Rui Goncalves finished in fifth overall, an excellent result for the rider who came back this season after serious shoulder surgery and has slowly but surely been gaining form on the track.

Rui Goncalves: “It is always good to race in Brazil because its like a second home GP for me. I was skick during the week and had to go on antibiotics so I would be able to race. today I fought hard to stay up front and I had two great races. this was my best GP so far. the speed is there and I can run with the best gusy,” he said.

Me perdi no começo da especial, o (Marc) Coma me passou e demorei cerca de quatro minutos para me encontrar.

The 19-year-old kept a cool head in front of 30,000 fans packed into the former coal-fired power station as he threw down huge trick after huge trick with his inimitable style. Nate Adams (USA) and Dany Torres (ESP) took the remaining spots on the podium, while Tour leader Andr Villa had to settle for a disappointing ninth place.

With the rain teeming down in London on Saturday night, it was only a question of time before the course began to cut up, leading to slippery run-ins and increasingly soft landings. We couldnt go right to the limit in the evening it was too dangerous, explained Americas Nate Adams, who took a strong second place. As all riders had benefitted from the same conditions on the dry course during Qualifying in the afternoon, it was decided that the result of that session should stand as the final result.

Despite the wet conditions, Battersea Power Station was sold out right down to the very last seat for an evening of spectacular FMX action. The fans certainly fired up the old coal power station, grinned third-placed Dany Torres (ESP). Crowd favourite Robbie Maddison, famous for his jump over Londons iconic Tower Bridge in 2009, could only finish in tenth place after falling hard during Qualifying.

In the overall standings Nate Adams (305 points) and Levi Sherwood (290 points) are closing in on current leader and Mexico-Champion Andr Villa (310 points). Its insane, commented Levi Rubber Kid Sherwood, who now lies only 20 points behind Andr Villa. Im going to give absolutely everything at the last event to try and knock Villa off top spot.

The final round of the Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour 2010 will be relocated to the Stadio Flaminio, famous for having hosted the 1960 Olympic Games and home of the Italian Rugby national team. This change grants a proper season final and a big show for the Italian fans, allowing an even bigger track and more fans to witness the final stage of the 2010 Series – but it also calls for an extra day and change of calendar. The final stop of the Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour will be held on October 2nd in the Stadio Flaminio, Rome.

Mundial MX – Ninguém segura a KTM

The Manx- born rider was in Mattighofen, Austria at KTM’s headquarters this week to put his signature on the new contract, team officials have confirmed.

Playing a similar role as Stefan Everts, who worked intensively with the KTM R&D department on the new 350 SX-F motocross machine, David, as one of the world’s best Enduro riders, has also been able to provide invaluable input into the development of KTM’s new EXC models. Like Everts, David has been working hand-in-hand with KTM’s R&D experts and his contribution in the development of the next generation of KTM’s Enduro machines will ensure that KTM can provide the racing fraternity with true state-of-the-art racing machines.

David, who currently leads the E3 World Championship standings with a 30 points gap over Christophe Nambotin, is enjoying an excellent current season and has never been off the podium in the competition’s first five rounds. He has netted six wins, two seconds and two third places and while there are still 150 points up for grabs in the Rounds scheduled for Greece, Turkey and France, David is well on the way to seeing his name on the trophy in 2010.

In May this year David also claimed the first ever British Enduro Sprint Championship, wrapping up the title with yet another double victory in Saints Well, Mid Wales in May to indicate that at 32 years-old, he is at the top of his game when it comes to competing against the world elite in riding skills, agility and tactics. As well as his seven other national titles, David is a double World Enduro Champion (2005/6), GNCC champions XC 2007/8, GBXC champion 2008, AMA Endurocross champion 2007, has twice won the Erzberg Extreme and the U.S. Red Bull Last Man Standing and was overall ISDE winner in 2005, to mention only a selection of his trophy collection.

David previously raced Orange in the World Championships and also in the USA and his return to the factory team underlines the KTM company philosophy of always being “Ready to Race” with the best and brightest in the world’s top competitions.

JDR Motorsports/Motorex/KTM rider PJ Larsen claimed the 2010 Rockstar Energy Australian MX Nationals title in the Pro Lites category one round early during Coolum’s mega double-header season finale in Queensland on July 24-25, 2010.

Larsen’s top finishing scores throughout the season gave him an 84 point advantage heading to the final round which allowed him to take the championship after Saturday’s race and gave him the opportunity to run his new #1 plate during Sunday’s event.

Saturday’s race was comprised of three 8-lap motos. Larsen pulled the holeshot in the first moto and went on to finish 2nd in the moto. He finished 2nd and 4th respectively in the next two motos to take 3rd overall for the day and the Championship.

The series win marks a fitting finale to what has been a dominant season for Larsen and the JDR Motorsports outfit in its maiden season in cooperation with KTM, the team taking out the title on the weekend using the all-new 2011 KTM 250 SX-F model.

“It means a lot to me to win this title after getting the opportunity to come and do a season in Australia with the JDR Motorsports/Motorex/KTM Team,” commented the 19-year-old, who is originally from South Carolina. “I’m glad that we could come out with the championship.”

The championship victory is a proud moment for the JDR Motorsports team, winning the title in memory of teammate Andrew McFarlane, who was tragically killed in at Broadford’s third round of the title earlier this season.

“The whole team has been working really hard because we wanted to win the title for Andrew – the whole goal was to go and do our best, make Andrew proud, and I think that we did a good job of it,” Larsen said, eventually winning with a comfortable margin of 65 points.

With the pressures of the championship challenge off his shoulders for Sunday’s round, California-based Larsen endured a difficult end to the season by his standards, taking out 4th overall with a consistent run of 4-5-4 results.

“It definitely wasn’t the best weekend for me,” he reflected. “I’ve been resting up an ankle injury that I suffered in the lead-up to Moree, but all in all we made the best of what we had, won the championship and that’s all that matters.”

“Winning the Pro Lites title is a first for PJ, it’s a first for the JDR team and it’s a first for the 2011 model KTM 250 SX-F,” Team Manager Jay Rynenberg commented. “I think PJ really proved a point to the Americans as well that he’s going to be a guy to be reckoned with next year. It’s a credit to his work ethic and a really good day for JDR.

Team JDR Motorex KTM team will now be preparing for the upcoming Super X Australasian

Supercross Championship, which is scheduled to kick-off at Energy Australia Stadium in Newcastle on October 16, 2010.

As for Larsen, he will return to the United States for the next two months and prepare for the Australian Supercross Series while in California. During his first week back he plans to relax and watch some racing instead of participate. “I am planning on going to the X-Games and then to Loretta Lynn’s in order to just catch up with some friends and take a break.”

KTM Superbike Germany’s RC8R riders Martin Bauer and Stefan Nebel can again start flexing their muscles as they get “Ready to Race” in the IDM (German International Superbike championships) at the Schleiz circuit in Germany this weekend when the competition resumes after the mid season break.

With three more race weekends and a total of six races left in the competition there is still a slew of championship points and podiums to be had and the two KTM RC8R riders are fresh and ready to go. In what has been so far a great year for the team, the bike and the riders, Martin has already won twice on the RC8R and Stefan has also been on the podium. Martin is third in the championship standings and Stefan is currently in fifth place in what has been a very competitive field. The riders, team and their many loyal KTM Racing fans all have good grounds to be optimistic and can hope for some more strong performances and good points in the second half of the season.

KTM Racing News caught up with Stefan and Martin to see what they had been doing during the calendar break and to ask them about racing at Schleiz, a circuit that is very traditional and offers riders something between classic road racing and riding on a permanent circuit. What they can expect is a great IDM race weekend because Schleiz traditionally attracts one of the highest number of spectators.

Martin Bauer: In the last three weeks I was able to take care of my own company MB Bike Performance but I also really had one week’s real holiday. We just spent the time at home but it was very relaxing and I was able to follow up on my hobbies – like flying. During this time I also drove the KTM X-Bow so my holiday wasn’t really completely without motors!!

KTM Racing: Schleiz is a very different race location. What are your feelings ahead of the fifth event of the year?

Martin Bauer: Schleiz is a place where I’ve already won a few races and because of that I’m very motivated. This is the final street course in the racing calendar so I do find the location very interesting. There’s always a great atmosphere there and there’s always a lot of spectators. I think the RC8R will also suit this track well so I’m hoping for at least a podium this weekend.

KTM Racing: What are you expecting on race day in Schleiz?

Martin Bauer: In Schleiz it’s extremely difficult to keep up the pace right to the end of the race so you can still attack in the final laps. One of the reasons for this is the layout of the track. It has very many fast changes of pace and this demands a lot of effort and energy.

KTM Racing: What do you hope for yourself and the team in the second part of the season?

Martin Bauer: I hope we can continue our good performance and can be in the fight for some more victories. We’ll only see what’s going to come out of it all after Hockenheim. But I am confident that the team has made a great job up till now!

***

Stefan Nebel: During the break I rode my own bikes a lot both offroad and on the race track – so in a way I had my own races! So I didn’t really have too much time to rest – but I’m happy about that!

KTM Racing: Now you have had the break in the season what is it like to be going to Schleiz?

Stefan Nebel: I’m looking forward to it because like our bike, this racetrack has a special character and I think that they are going to work pretty well together! Anyway I’m happy to be on this bike and to be racing with it – and to have such a great team behind us. So I’ll go to Schleiz to try to win and like every weekend, to have fun…..

KTM Racing: Given the special characteristic of the racetrack at Schleiz, what do you expect this weekend?

Stefan Nebel: For sure we are good in the race distance so we have to work with the team to get the best performance. We have to soak up the special atmosphere and draw our motivation from that. If we do that for sure the rest will come to us…

KTM Racing: Looking ahead to the rest of the season how do you think the team will perform?

Stefan Nebel: I hope that we will be able to put in some strong race and that we are on the podium a couple of times. I want to be in the top three in the championship at the end of the season because I want to show that KTM can do it!! I know everybody in the team is working like hell for it and getting good results is the best way to say thanks to all the guys for their work and thanks to KTM!

Both Stefan and Martin ride the KTM 1190 RC8R Superbike. Stefan, from Germany, is 29 and the Nürburgring is his favourite racetrack. Martin is from Austria, in 34 and his favourite track is the Sachsenring. After the two races in Schleiz, the IDM riders compete on August 22 in Assen (Netherlands) and in Hockenheim on September 19th to conclude the season.
